Acupuncture is best used to keep children's systems healthy and properly functioning!

What is acupuncture like for children?

Acupuncture (the bottom video below) and Shonishin (the top video below) are both used for babies and children in my office.

Shonishin is a form of Japanese acupuncture that was specifically created for children. This form of acupuncture does not require the use of inserted needles "taps". Instead, a variety of differently shaped tools are gently tapped, rubbed, or pressed on the child’s skin. Babies and young children enjoy and respond very quickly to this form of treatment.

Depending on the needs of child, regular acupuncture needles "taps" may also be used. My technique is gentle and even the most "determined" and "independent" two-year-olds can be treated with inserted needles without a problem. Moxibustion, Gua Sha, Cupping, and other modalities may be used as well.

Children may also receive herbal formulas when they come to the office for treatment. I carry a line of formulas that were specifically designed for young patients. These liquids are given with a dropper for ease of administration.

Lifestyle is also a big part of the healing and wellness process. Therefore, diet, exercise, past medical history, and the family environment will all be taken into account when the child is treated.

This video is what Shonishin looks like.
